NZS MOST CREATIVE PLACE  we are the countrys leading creative place! This was proven when the New Plymouth District won three Creative Places Awards, including the premier title. It is also known that Taranaki has per capital the highest number of artists than any other region in New Zealand.
 
SUNSHINE CAPITAL - in 2004 Taranaki recorded the most sunshine hours for the North Island. This may be the reason why we have the highest consumption of ice cream in the country!
 
INTERNATIONAL EVENTS - so far this year Taranaki has had an impressive events calendar. Mad March brought WOMAD, Mark Knopfler and R.E.M, with the Lions rugby tour and Taranaki Festival of the Arts keeping everyone busy during winter. Later on in the yearTaranaki will be hosting the ITU World Cup Triathlon, National Surf Lifesaving Champs, WorldLong Track Speedway and the Rhododendron Festival.
