Vital Information for your Covering Letter

Address it to someone of importance in the organisation or as specified in a vacancy advertisement

HINT: if you dont know the correct name, why not ring the organisation and actually ask who the General Manager, Owner/Operator or Chief Executive is.

Be specific about why you are writing tailor it to the vacancy advertisement

HINT: dont woffle be concise!

Spell out your skills and how they can benefit the organisation.

HINT: research the activities of the organisation to ensure your skills are of need

Be brief and focused, but cover the important highlights and how your skills fit the job

HINT: keep it to one page, paragraphs short and concise sentences

Summarise the main points from your CV

HINT: use a thesaurus  dont simply repeat what is written in your CV

Proof read it carefully.

HINT: get two other people to check spelling, grammar and style of writing

Aim to gain an edge over other applicants by showing your enthusiasm and interest

HINT: differentiate yourself by using positive wording, e.g. extremely, eagerness etc

Include contact details and information about your availability

HINT: dont forget to sign it!

And finally attach a copy of your CV and put it in an envelope, unfolded
